Crazy about hardwood? Here’s a recap of the hottest trends determined by one of our key suppliers, flooring manufacturer Shaw Industries:
Grey—the new “it” neutral. Lately, greys have been up-and-coming in every segment of the home furnishings industry.

Polarity of gloss levels. While one home furnishings industry feels strongly that high gloss levels are the trend, another takes an equally strong position on matte gloss. (Medium-gloss levels, however, are not being seen as often.) Shaw designers conclude that this difference conforms to consumer needs and desires.

The beautiful browns. Medium brown shades are a result of the cycling away from extreme dark and extreme light colors. What we’re seeing is definitely not red or orange in tone, but more of a medium walnut—perhaps with a light stain. In response to the challenging economic environment, these colors are safer and less bold. Just as there’s comfort food, this is comfort flooring.

Texturization. Texture is hot—so you’ll find we offer many flooring styles that are hand-scraped, soft-scraped, and wire-brushed. Look for contrasting grains, Birdseye maple, printed visuals, striped or brindled effects—anything that shifts the product away from a basic, natural, smooth surface. These are the Neo-Naturals, and you’ll see them in today’s stylish hardwood and laminate.

Reclaimed wood. It’s all about being green and good, about creative ways to make great design while being kinder to the earth. It’s a goal we take it seriously. So we carry products that recycle waste-wood cuts, use “lost” swamp and river wood and layer veneers into logs that are sliced to form exciting grains and stylish “species.” Shaw has also developed alternatives to exotics, using a patented process that injects color throughout renewable domestic woods—for the richly grained exotic look … with a conscience.
