The changing seasons means it’s also time to change your home décor. But why should the inside of your house get all the seasonal décor love? It’s time you let the outside of your house get in on the fun, too.
Decorating your porch can seem a little intimidating. But whether your space is large or small, it doesn’t have to be. Start by picking a theme. This time of year you can choose to go with a general fall tone, or you can decorate specifically for Halloween. If you choose Halloween, you can make your porch festive and fun or try to be the spookiest house on the block. The great thing is, there are no right or wrong answers here. Decorate to whatever suits your taste, but stick to a single theme to avoid jumbling the space. Here are a few ideas to dress up your porch for fall:
Pumpkins and Gourds
Nothing says fall better than a bright orange pumpkin. Whether your pumpkin is real or fake, carved or whole, adding one or several to your porch can add a pop of color and instant festiveness. If you want to decorate your pumpkin but don’t want it rotting on your porch, consider painting it. You can also use vinyl to add letters or designs to your pumpkins. If you want something a little more fancy, brush your pumpkin with white glue and dust it with glitter to sparkle up your porch.
Straw Bales
This time of year you can get straw bales at most garden centers. These are great stacked on top of each other or used as bases for pumpkins or other elements.
Wreaths
Adding a wreath to your door can quickly bring the season to your porch. You can use a wreath as your whole decoration, or you can use it as part of the overall theme. Best of all, a wreath doesn’t have to cost you a lot of money. You can find several great DIY wreath ideas here.
Scarecrows
If you’ve got an old shirt and pair of overalls hanging around the house, you’re most of the way to having your own scarecrow. Simply stuff the clothing with hay, add a pumpkin for a head and a straw hat and you’re in business.
Spooky Props
Using cobwebs, coffins, black cats, spiders, witches, headstones and other scary elements can really creep up your space. For added effect, a little dry ice on Halloween night can give your porch an extra creepy vibe.
