Like clothing, home decor styles go “in” and “out” throughout the years. Think: 1970s bell bottoms and shag carpeting. So what’s hot in 2013? Are the ’70s back? Read on to learn the latest fashions in home decor. Here’s a hint: Homeowners are getting more adventurous this year.
Bold Colors. Homes adorned in grays and beiges have been a big hit in recent years. “What comes after that is always a bold pop of color,” says designer Rosalyn Lazaruk. Indeed, a trend of bright, in-your-face colors is emerging in patterns and solids.
Emerald Moods. Emerald green is as “in” as it gets this year. Give it a try with your fabrics and textiles. “Lazaruk says emerald adds a rich, lush feeling to a space,” according to an Edmonton Journal article. “She sees emerald green popping up in accent patterns, such as in area rugs, but it is also flourishing in vases.”
Vivid Geometrics. Add energy to your space with vibrant, flashy patterns, including zigzags, chevrons and stripes. “What we’re seeing now is we’re mixing them together to create an eclectic geometric look,” Lazaruk says. “You may do a chevron on the wall and then add a honeycomb pattern in your toss cushion with stripes in your area rug.”
