Cranberry sauce. Mashed potatoes with gravy. Coffee and tea. Some of the worst enemies of carpet are served up on Thanksgiving. Are you hosting a big family dinner? Here are some ways to keep the worst food stains off your carpet:
Borrow or rent an extra table. Expecting a large crowd? Make sure everyone can eat food at a table. Keeping food on a table instead of in someone’s lap in the living room will decrease your the chances that food ends up sliding off a plate and onto the carpet.
Feed small children in a non-carpeted area. If you can, have a small table or eating area set aside for your youngest guests in an area that you can easily clean should they spill. Provide beverages in non-spill cups or juice boxes.
Keep an eye on where you serve coffee and tea. These two beverages can create some of the most stubborn carpet stains that are extremely difficult to remove. Serve these beverages and hot chocolate at the table.
Keep Fido somewhere else. Keep your pets in a separate room or in your back yard during your celebration. Pets can get overwhelmed when a large crowd is in your home. In addition to having accidents of their own, pets can bump – or jump on – a guest with food or a beverage in their hands.
Spills can happen even if you take precautions. But these tips may just reduce the number of carpet stains you have to deal with after the big meal is over. Enjoy!
