If you have new carpet, you probably have scraps of old carpet hanging around. Here are a few ways to keep them out of the trash and useful around the house!
1. Place a narrow strip of carpet on the floor between your washer and dryer.
Socks and other small items will fall onto the carpet, instead of under appliances. It makes searching for fallen clothing a lot easier.
2. Put a carpet scrap beneath the washer or dryer to muffle the noise. You’ll be able to do laundry at night without waking the entire house.
3. Staple a strip of carpet to a post to create a cat scratching post. Rub on a little catnip if you need to attract your feline friend to its new toy.
4. Make your own exercise or yoga mat. Cut a piece about three feet wide and as long as you are tall. It can be easily rolled up and stored in a closet or under the bed.
5. Make a buffer by gluing a piece of carpet to a block of wood. You can use it to shine shoes, clean screens or erase the family blackboard.
6. Reduce kitchen clatter by placing a piece of carpet on the shelves where you store pots and pans. The carpet will act as a cushion to block the noise.
7. Create your own car mats. Cut pieces of carpet to fit your floorboards. This can be a big money saver!
