About two-thirds of American households have a pet. And while they might make for nice companions, they aren’t the best thing for some types of floors. Between sharp claws and shedding, your floor can end up pretty beat up.
The good news is there are plenty of hard surface flooring options that can accommodate furry friends. Here are a few:
Vinyl: Vinyl sheet or tile floors are known to be durable, resilient and resistant to moisture, scratches and dents. Consumers also have a huge assortment of designs and colors. And perhaps the best part: it subdues the sound of your pet’s nails when they walk across the floor.
Laminate: Get the look of hardwood flooring while providing a durable surface for your pets. While laminate flooring doesn’t absorb moisture as much as other options, you’ll still need to clean up any spills to protect the life of your floor. The boards can stain and warp from moisture.
With both kinds of flooring, pet nails can really create some damage. If you’re really concerned about the life of your floor, make sure to have your pet’s nails trimmed regularly, or contain him or her in a separate room.
