If you’re undecided about what type of flooring you want, choosing it may take some time. A lot of options are out there to consider, and you want to make sure you choose what’s best for you, your household and your space. You’ll have to take into account your budget, your style, what type of foot traffic there is and any other applicable needs.
When you go shopping, you’ll find a variety to choose from including laminate, hardwood flooring (engineered and solid planks), luxury vinyl flooring, tile and wall-to-wall carpeting. You’ll notice that each flooring type also has a lot of different colors, patterns and styles to choose from. And each type of flooring will have pros and cons. In fact, we have a blog post about that if you’re interested. However, in this blog, we’re going to focus specifically on one type of flooring and explore the benefits of it — wall-to-wall carpeting.
In recent years, you may have seen more buzz about hardwood flooring and luxury vinyl planking, but wall-to-wall carpeting is still a viable option. In fact, there are actually many reasons to opt for this type of flooring, some of which you may not even be aware of, so let’s discuss.
1. It can dampen noise.
Carpet flooring and its underlayment can help dampen noise between floors. This is especially great if you have an activity space above your living room or you have a room above a first-floor bedroom.
2. It’s better for acoustics.
If you want better sound in your home theater, carpeting is the way to go. Instead of causing reverberation, the carpet takes in the sound. You don’t have to worry about any echoing effects.
3. It comes in a variety of styles.
You can choose the type of carpet flooring that meets your specific needs whether that’s for an informal or formal space. Many carpets even offer stain-resistance if you’re concerned about spills.
The four main categories that carpet flooring comes in are texture, twist, loop and pattern.
• Texture: The velvety look and feel of smoothly cut yarns. May be deeply or lightly textured to create a fresh, easy-care surface.
• Twist: The twist is back in this lighthearted carpet trend. It’s relaxed but elegant and sumptuous to the touch.
• Loop: Modern interpretation of handcrafted styling. For active areas, where you want sass and sophistication without worry.
• Pattern: Almost an art form. Cut and uncut loops form distinctive designs, for decorating with originality and flair.
4. It’s easy to maintain.
Carpet may be one of the easiest types of flooring to maintain.
These are the three main points when it comes to keeping your carpet looking great:
As you can see, it doesn’t take much to maintain carpeting, and one of the benefits of modern carpet flooring is that some of them come with stain resistant treatments, which improve the ability to clean up stains. Some carpets also have soil resistant treatments, which can reduce the rate of soiling.
Side note: The majority of stain complaints are actually soil related. Say, for example, you spill a soft drink, which is sugar-based, onto the floor. This sticky residue readily attracts soil from ordinary shoe traffic and the resulting discolored area appears to be a stain. The same thing can happen when spills are cleaned with a detergent solution and the area is not sufficiently rinsed with plain water, leaving a sticky detergent residue. In these circumstances, it’s important to thoroughly rinse out the detergent with water and blot dry after removing any spill. Really, the main key to reducing stains is to clean up the area thoroughly as soon as you can.
*Remember to always reference the manufacturer’s warranty for specific care restrictions.
5. It’s safer for those prone to falling.
If you have a loved one living in the home that has an increased risk of falling, carpet can be a safer flooring option. There’s an anti-slip quality to it, and if someone would fall, it offers a softer landing.
6. It’s insulating.
Carpeting has an insulating quality, which may even help decrease the energy usage in your home.
7. It’s comfortable under your feet.
Most people prefer a warm and cozy feeling under their feet, especially when stepping out of their bed (that’s why we often suggest area rugs that extend under the bed to both sides for those with hard flooring). If you like going barefoot, carpeting tends to be more comfortable under your feet. (It also makes a soft surface to sit or lay on while you’re watching something on TV, playing a game or listening to music.)
After reading this, we’re sure you can see the perks of installing wall-to-wall carpeting in your space.
