Have you been contemplating whether you should get new flooring or not? Flooring will eventually show signs of wear over the years. After being underfoot for so long, it’s no wonder it eventually needs replaced. But, even if it’s not showing wear and tear, there may be other reasons to replace it. We’ll discuss eight reasons to get new flooring below, read on.
1. You’re ready for change.
Sometimes we just need a little change. If the room in question looked the same for a while, you may be itching for some change. Maybe you want to change the ambiance of the room, change up the type of flooring or you just want to give the room a fresh look. These are all good reasons to get new flooring. The flooring in a room can really affect the overall feel and appearance.
2. It’s showing a lot of wear and tear.
Tears, cracks, discoloration, etc. Overtime, flooring will start to collect some signs of wear and tear. Minor signs are typically nothing to be worried about, but as the years go by, wear and tear worsen until it’s time for new flooring. Also, keep in mind, that if discoloration is from mold, it can be a health concern.
3. The floor is collecting stains and odors.
Lots of things can cause stains from red wine to chemicals to pet accidents. But it is worth noting that when it comes to carpet flooring, most are soil related. In the majority of situations, sugar-based spills like soft drinks and coffee, leave a sugar residue after removal. This sticky residue then attracts soil from ordinary shoe traffic, this then results in a discolored area on the floor. This can also happen if the carpet is cleaned with a detergent solution and the area is not sufficiently rinsed with plain water; the detergent then leaves a sticky residue that can attract soil and cause a stain. With the stains that linger, odors can also build up.
*Quick tip: If you choose carpet flooring, we recommend a stain resistant carpeting and keeping Shaw’s R2X stain and soil remover on hand.
4. It’s too noisy.
Does your floor creak and squeak as you walk around? If your flooring is becoming extra noisy, then it probably means it’s time for a replacement.
5. It’s no longer in style.
You may have loved your flooring when you first put it in, or maybe it even came with the house, but as we all know, trends come and go. If you find your flooring is no longer in style, it’s probably time to upgrade your space. You can go with a timeless look or choose another fun and on-trend flooring style.
6. The home is changing hands.
Buying or selling, it’s a good time for new flooring.
If you’re buying a home, then you may feel better replacing your flooring, especially if you’re concerned that allergens from the previous owners have built up in it. You may also find some of the floors have unknown stains in them. Or, maybe the style just doesn’t fit your liking.
If you’re selling your house, then it can be a good idea to replace flooring to increase the value and marketing appeal of the space. You may be able to get more money out of the place as new flooring is a great selling point!
7. There’s water damage.
If you have a water leak and it causes damage to the flooring, it can sometimes cause stains, cracks, bulges and more. It’s not just an eye sore, it can also be a health issue if mold has time to grow.
8. Your allergies are out of hand.
Over the years, things like dust and pollen can build up in homes. Of course, there are ways to help reduce these things like running an air purifier and regularly maintaining floors, but still, you may find after years of use, a new floor may be beneficial. Also, if you have a mold problem in your flooring, this can cause allergies to flare up.
Also, while there is some back and forth whether carpeting is worse for allergies or not, some may find it’s easier to keep hardwood, tile and vinyl flooring pollen and dust free with regular sweeping. So, if you suffer from allergies, you may want to go this route. Keep in mind, that some people are sensitive to volatile organic compounds (VOCs), so you may want to choose a flooring that is touted as low VOC.
